From accidents to safety – Safe Wear Plate changes the working environment
The idea for the Safe Wear Plate arose gradually as various incidents and more serious accidents happened in connection with wear plate replacements. Crush injuries with blue fingernails and stiff backs were part of the work but one incident when one of the fitters cut a nut and it fell onto the locking part of the watch's metal bracelet and stuck there and melted the locking mechanism. The metal bracelet could not be opened and before we could flush water on his wrist, he had already suffered severe burns as a result.
We often lost wear plates during disassembly, but there were no good alternatives for lifting safety. At one point, we started cooperating with an installation company that assembled and dismantled hundreds of wear plates per year and with constant additions. Even then there had been deliveries of Safe Wear Plate in small numbers, but now with a larger number of wear plates at each assembly and disassembly and without the previous risks and incidents.
We realized that the Safe Wear Plate should come to the attention of all installers and work environment managers in the industry.
